Head of Data Engineering

Tiro Partners are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our client as the Head of Data Engineering with a focus on Azure data topics. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of data engineering, with a specific emphasis on leveraging Azure services and technologies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain data solutions that drive business intelligence, analytics, and data-driven decision making. As the Head of Data Engineering, you will play a crucial role in shaping the data strategy and architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security of our data infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive data engineering strategy aligned with business objectives, with a particular focus on leveraging Azure data technologies.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and analysts to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable data engineering solutions.
• Design and implement scalable data pipelines, data integration workflows, and ETL processes using Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Architect and maintain data storage solutions on Azure, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure SQL Database.
• Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing data governance processes, data validation techniques, and data lineage tracking.
• Optimise data workflows and pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, leveraging Azure monitoring and optimisation tools.
• Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in Azure data technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance our data engineering capabilities.
• Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and implement robust data security practices.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the data engineering team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in data engineering and data architecture, with a focus on Azure data technologies.
• In-depth knowledge of Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure SQL Database.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and other relevant programming languages for data engineering and transformation.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and building scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration workflows.
• Solid understanding of data governance principles, data quality assurance, and data security best practices.
• Experience in leading and managing a team of data engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex data requirements and architect innovative solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Relevant certifications in Azure data technologies (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate) are a plus.
